Orecchiette with Greens, Mozzarella and Chickpeas

Recipe 18 - February 29th, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Food and Wine, September 2011

As you can see, I did not use Orecchiette pasta, but Penne pasta for this recipe, since that was what I had in the pantry.  It was very tasty and fresh none-the-less.  The crispy chickpeas is a nice addition.  The tomatoes and chard are fresh and this will be a great recipe for summer when we get lots of chard and tomatoes from the garden and CSA.

Shrimp and Okra Gumbo

Recipe 17 - February 15th, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Cooking Light, April 2010

This is probably a sacrilege to admit, but I did not make the grits with this recipe.  It tastes great alone and would probably taste even better with the grits.  They will definitely be included when I make it again.

This recipe was tasty and quick!  The portions were perfectly sized and there were plenty of left-overs.

Pan-Fried Flounder with Poblano-Corn Relish

Recipe 16 - February 14th, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Food and Wine, October 2006
Chef: Brian Talley

This is a horrible picture of a really nice dish.  I found out that my local Safeway mis-labels Poblano peppers and luckily I decided to buy the one that looked most like a poblano and was lucky that it was mis-labled.

I used cod instead of flounder because I can not find flounder here.  The serving sizes were just right and the cooking times were right on.  It is a really nice dish!

Chickpea Bajane

Recipe 15 - February 13th, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Cooking Light, July 2010

I didn't take a picture of this dish, but it is very colorful.  It tastes really nice and is very fresh.  Erik cooked this one since I was watching a friend, Cassidy tonight.  The cooking times were right on and the servings were quite large.  Very good recipe!

Goan Shrimp Curry

Recipe 14 - February 3rd, 2012

Fizzle.

This recipe comes from Food and Wine, March 2011
Chef: Sanjeev Kapoor

I don't think I prepared this recipe correctly.  There were too many different flavors going on.  The curry didn't get pureed the way it should probably have.  I don't know if I didn't blend it enough or if it wasn't cooked enough to blend well.  Also, I bought Mexican shrimp (probably another name for Gulf Shrimp in case people aren't buying it again yet...?) and it wasn't very good shrimp.  Overall it was edible and interesting, but not worth making again.  Will try something else from this region another time.  Maybe this: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/shrimp-vindaloo-10000001041869/

Shrimp Pad Thai

Recipe 13 - February 2nd, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Cooking Light, March 2011

New addition to our top five!  Quick and easy and really good!  Adding this to my regular repertoire.  We had two large servings from the recipe.  Serving size is smaller, but probably just right.  Didn't change anything about the recipe.

Parsi-Style Vegetable Stew

Recipe 12 - February 1st, 2012

Success!

This recipe comes from Food and Wine, March 2011
Chef: Sanjeev Kapoor

Quick and easy and tasty!  The added sugar and Worcestershire sauce add a nice variation.  I don't usually like sweet potatoes either and they are really nice in this recipe.  The servings are hearty, we got about 5-6 servings from this recipe.  Great winter recipe!
